Regulatory dynamics ,India AIS power battery standard revision four has been mandatory
In August 2024, the Indian Automotive Industry Standards Committee (AISC) issued the fourth revision of AIS-038 (Rev.2), and in December last year, the fourth revision of AIS-156 was also released. The new revision of AIS-038 gives the definition of "active parallel circuit" in the previous version, and adds consideration to other measures to reduce the circulation current, and the new revision also has clearer instructions on the requirements of other vehicles and power batteries. The revised version is now mandatory.
Factory audit and COP test requirements:
According to the GSR 888(E) notice issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (Morth) on December 19, 2022, power battery manufacturers, after completing the AIS 038 or AIS 156 report and certificate, are required to complete the first factory audit within a specified time and conduct COP tests every two years to maintain the validity of the certificate. This requirement will be mandatory from March 31, 2023, and it has been two years since it was issued in 2022.
